Pinterest has been around for awhile and here is my embarrassing admission: I had never heard of it until recently. But ever since discovering this little gem I’ve become, like most other pinners, absolutely obsessed!
Okay so let me rewind a fair bit here.
Pinterest is a digital wonderland where people can upload, organise and share inspirational images. Every upload is called a pin and these pins can be organised into categorised boards such as home, office, typography or weddings. Anything you can think of really.
Other than just pinning stuff that tickles your fancy I’ve found it super useful in creating mood and style boards for my home, office and my dream wedding. I’ve even started creating a wish list board of all the products I wish I had. And the best part, well more like another best part is that the source of each image that is uploaded is automatically credited and hyperlinked back, giving an avenue to explore new and amazing blogs I never would have otherwise found.
Currently you can only be invited by a Pinterest member to start sharing. So if you can imagine, there I was a couple of weeks ago trolling my way around the net trying to find someone to invite me. Sad I know. But the Pinterest community is a lovely one and I received a couple of invites within the hour! So to give back if anyone wants a Pinterest invite, I’m happy to oblige.
Visually the site is designed beautifully, each pin is designed like a little polaroid and laid out in such an engaging grid system. The user interface elements are minimalist allowing the shared images themselves space to breathe and engage you. The simplicity of its functionality really complements the site’s aesthetic and coupled with such a strong concept it’s no wonder this site has gotten so many props.
Fun facts:
On 16 August 2011, Time magazine published Pinterest in its “50 Best Websites of 2011″ column.
