Great typography on the web is increasing and gaining much more importance – which is great! It used to be much harder to implement non-default browser fonts into your website and so typography frequently piled into the ‘can’t be bothered list’.
Fortunately these days there are wonderful websites out there that can help you overcome all that. I’ve listed down 3 websites that allow you to implement fonts into your website with ease and another useful web app that allows you to test your screen type with ease.
Fonts.com Web Fonts
Web fonts allows you to choose any font in their collection and easily assign that font to the text in your website. The implementation is just a matter of inserting a few lines of code. But their greatest asset is that one of their subscription plans allows you to download up to 50 fonts to your desktop every month.
TypeKit
TypeKit is another great and dandy website that allows you to choose fonts and implement them into your website with only a few lines of code. Their greatest differentiator is that their fonts are optimised for the web and the interface of their tools are easy to use and very intuitive. Another plus is that the website has just been acquired by Adobe! I’m not sure what it means but I’m assuming better quality and overall service?
Font Deck
Font Deck is another great online library for fonts and works much the same way as TypeKit and Web Fonts but their unique selling point lies in its pricing. Unlike the other services you have the option of paying only for the font that you choose. Which is a great option to have if you only want one font and don’t want to commit to any more than that.
Typetester
And finally, Typesetter is unique in the sense that it allows you the ability to test out how your type will look on the screen and immediately compare different typesetting treatments against each other.
